Halo 4 Live Stream

343 did a live stream on Twitch TV this afternoon. David Ellis and Major Nelson give you some news and commentary, while the staff play 5 games (if I remember right). These games include, Infinity Slayer, Regicide, CTF, King of the Hill, and a game mode we have not seen yet called Extraction. They play on Haven, Adrift, Complex, Ragnarok, and Solace

If you missed the stream, you can watch a replay of it here. Scroll down, and click on the videos tab, and there it is. If you are just interested in the game play, it starts at the 12:30 mark.

Spartan Ops Trailer – Full Analysis

Wow. If that doesn’t get your blood pumping for Spartan Ops, and Halo 4 in general, you are probably dead. I love Commander Palmer already just from the line, “If those freaks want to meet God, it’s our duty to help them along!”. Gives me goosebumps!

I’ve got some screenshots of course, and some speculations about what is in them. I will leave anything I deem to be a spoiler at the bottom, with a warning above. read a way in total bliss, until you reach the red warning. proceed cautiously thereafter.

Here we have a shot of Lasky on the bridge of the Infinity. I assume he is looking at a Hologram of Requiem there, but who is the figure behind the sphere? I wonder if that is Infinity’s AI?

The Spartan warehouse. All shapes and colours available.

Commander Palmer giving her kick ass pregame speech

Looks like Majestic Squad, the group of Spartans we will be following in the episodes, is in a firefight. These scenes look absolutely fantastic.

A couple shots of another Spartan getting suited up, similair to ones we saw from NYCC.

A group of shots featuring some of the gameplay.

Ahh the good stuff. Looks like we have some Broadswords (the new space fighter) heading into Requiem.

OOOOHHH Boy, you do NOT want to park there. that was fantastic. It is a testament to how big the infinity is that it can do something like that and not be rendered inoperable.

Lasky gets a smirk from ramming the Covey ship.

There is also this little clip of the ONI symbol at the very end of the video. I’m guessing it has to do with the whole #EVILAWAKENS thing, but I’m nowhere near smart enough to figure that kind of stuff out.

SPECULATION AND SPOILERSSPOILERSSPLOILERSSPOILERS

That was your warning.

Here we have the scene at the end. It looks like a bunch of guys in lab coats opening a trunk of some kind, and it either blows up or releases a bunch of something. I believe (speculating) that this is the artifact recovered in Ep1Ch5: The Core. Something isn’t right about that thing, and we know from the description of Ep2 that it causes some problems on the Infinity. I think this is the start of those problems.

So Very Close

We are now in single digit territory. With just over 8 days left, I am trying hard to contain my excitement, and look forward to the next small thing rather than focusing on the big finale.

I am currently on my last work shift before the release. Once I am done on Tuesday, I will not go back to work until Nov. 9th. That will be a long five day shift, having played Halo for three straight days, then not being able to at all.

Once I get home I am going to finish my Halo series play through. I have the final two missions on Halo 2 , and all of Halo 3 yet to finish. Those will be divided up so I only play a few missions each day, completing Halo 3 on the 5th. I’ll be plating Skyrim this week as well, since I have so much to do on it, and I sure won’t be interested in that game after 4 comes out.

Thursday we will have the final bulletin, a Q&A edition that I am looking forward to.

Friday morning will gift us with the final episode of Forward Unto Dawn, which I will cover here. I expect two things from this episode: a Hunter, and additional Spartans. If we get both, I will be 100% satisfied.

Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday is the MLG Dallas event, featuring Halo 4. Check out all the info here. I am really looking forward to watching this, and getting to see lots of high quality gameplay on the new maps. Commentated by Elamite and Bravo, this tournament is a must watch for me.

Finally we come to Monday. Halo comes out on Tuesday of course, but since I am going to a midnight launch, it will still be Monday to me.

I called my local EB Games to ask if they would be doing a midnight release back when the LE was first released. At the time they said they weren’t sure. Not wanting to miss our on the LE, I pre ordered it in the bigger city 40 minutes away, where I was assured of getting the game at midnight. Later on I was told the local store would be having a midnight release, but by that time the LE had been sold out. So as a result I have a 40-45 minute drive home after I get the game, rather than a 5 minute one. In hindsight I should have ordered at both. C’est la vie.

I plan to wake up early Monday, around 3 am. I’ll finish up Halo 3 and maybe watch some replays of MLG Dallas. Once I pick up my son from school, I’ll go for a nap until around 6pm (hopefully I can get to sleep!). After the nap I’ll head to Regina, and basically kill time until midnight. If they have a bunch of stuff going on, I’ll do some posts from the launch, maybe put a video or two up on my YouTube account.

Once I have the game I will drive home at at the fastest reasonable speed, and burn through Campaign on normal while consuming massive amounts of Mountain Dew and Doritos. Then I will hit SpOps until I can do them flawlessly, or I pass out in my recliner with my headset on and controller in my hand.

Tuesday I will be playing, making SpOps videos, and blogging.

That’s my week and a bit ahead. What have you all got planned? I’d love to hear what you are going to do for the big day, so let me know in the comments!

Forward Unto Dawn reviews by HaloFanForLife

While my reviews are usually up early, they are short and sweet, and usually just discuss what I notice after watching the episode a couple times. If you want more FUD reviews, I highly suggest you take a look at halofanforlife.com’s reviews here.

Sal puts a ton of effort into these reviews, and it shows. You can also tell how excited he is for the series. If that’s still not enough, he does a graphic novel for each episode!

Forward Unto Dawn Part 4

Action is exciting, but it leaves a blogger with little to talk about! I enjoyed this week’s episode. We finally have the Chief, some complete shots of an Elite, and the hint of something bigger to come. Despite that, I finished watching and thought to myself “That was fun, but what am I going to talk about?” While there is lots to discuss, there wasn’t a lot of hidden or subtle stuff in this instalment  but that comes with the change from exposition to action. Do you want subtlety  or do you want to blow some stuff up? It’s hard to have both. I think I really appreciate now that they didn’t just make an explosiaganza, and gave us real characters and storylines to care about. Action is fun, but if it isn’t grounded with story, it becomes repetitive and boring.

To the Screenshots!! Because this episode was packed with cool visuals, but not a lot of story, I am going to give multiple screenshots, and then discuss them as a group.

The opening scene wasn’t as exciting as last week, but it would honestly be hard to top the crazy Cortana. There are however, a few interesting things to discuss. First of all, something jars the FUD hard enough to knock the ice off of the walls, and blow a coupler. Storm Covenant? Something from Requiem? Also, this is obviously getting close to  the descent into the sphere, and here we see the Infinity on the screen. I didn’t think the flagship would show up until after Cortana and John were inside.

Foreshadowing? Or just Reminiscing? From some other scenes in other places, I pretty sure we’ll be seeing a Halo in this game.

This action sequence does a good job getting across the frenetic chaos going on at the academy. Mehaffey dies, and aside from it being a gruesome display of what a needler can do, it was also sudden and unexpected, for me at least. I think for Lasky, it was like seeing another family member die. Certainly he was closer to Mehaffey than his Mother. We also see a dim shot of a Jackal. I definitely want to see a Grunt running for his life next time.

As soon as poor Chen said that he was going to take point, I knew he was done for.

Here we have some awesome views of a Zealot class Elite. I’ve included a render from the game so you can compare. Very cool.

It’s the Chief!! The cadets look like they are in shock. Vickers dies in this scene, and I was disappointed to my surprise. I was looking forward to him and Lasky mellowing out towards each other. I really didn’t expect him to die. Orensky seems to loose it here as well. While she may be all calm, cool and collected when nice and safe, when it hits the fan Lasky certainly seems more in charge.

When they were trying to open the lockers, I thought “Just wait, the Chief can just tear it open” I must be psychic!!

Sully has a couple good lines in this hallway scene. First off, he voices what many people mistakenly think, that the Spartans are “Robots”. Also when John asks who is the best shot Sulley quips “You, probably.”

The thing that struck me here was that there are no Covenant dead. While it may have to do with not having to CG them in, it also speaks to how completely they won this fight.

The Chief saves Sully! After seeing what happened to Mehaffey, and now what happened when Sully gets a needle in the leg, it’s cool that it doesn’t even phase the Chief.

“Ahh this AR is useless!! I need a precision weapon!”

These shots of John taking out the Jackals are pretty sweet. When he lands after the jump, it’s like a boulder hitting the ground.

Next Week…

Where is Lasky going? Is he flanking again?

HUNTER. Oh how I hope we see more than what is teased here. Also as mentioned above, if we don’t see at least one Grunt I will be upset.
