I don’t usually post War Games vids on here, but I thought this was pretty funny and just wanted to share it…that’ll teach em for trying to jack my hog…
343 did a live stream on Twitch TV this afternoon. David Ellis and Major Nelson give you some news and commentary, while the staff play 5 games (if I remember right). These games include, Infinity Slayer, Regicide, CTF, King of the Hill, and a game mode we have not seen yet called Extraction. They play on Haven, Adrift, Complex, Ragnarok, and Solace
If you missed the stream, you can watch a replay of it here. Scroll down, and click on the videos tab, and there it is. If you are just interested in the game play, it starts at the 12:30 mark.
343 has announced the Map packs for Halo 4, given us some concept art and general release times for the map. Check out the original Article by Major Nelson here.
These maps look like a lot of fun, and I hope I get to use all of them lots. Having purchased all the map packs for Halo Reach a year ago, there are some maps I have only played a couple games on.
All of these maps are available with a Halo 4 Map pass, which is included in the Limited Edition.). If you didn’t get the LE, you can purchase a Map Pass, which will give you all the maps for less money than buying each Pack individually. The map pass also comes with two in game helmets and an in game emblem.
Crimson Map Pack (December release timeframe)
Maps: Wreckage, Harvest, Shatter
Description: Witness the chaos of a clash of civilizations in Wreckage, with its blend of claustrophobic spaces and dangerous exposures and venture into the human colony environs of Harvest, and explore a human foray on an alien moon in Shatter.
Majestic Map Pack (February release timeframe)
Maps: Landfall, Monolith, Skyline
Description: Landfall’s emphasis is on infantry battles against a glittering ocean on a distant world, while Monolith exposes you to the naked vacuum of space – and the firepower of opposing teams, and Skyline’s distinctly industrial feel provides new challenges in somewhat familiar, but occasionally confined spaces.
Castle Map Pack (April release timeframe)
Maps: Daybreak, Outcast, Perdition
Description: Daybreak is set in a military facility against the backdrop of an idyllic mountain range, while Outcast plunges you into the warrens, canyons and arches of an alien edifice, and Perdition takes players into the heart of an urban sprawl, with tactical speed and situational awareness its key features.
Ign released the first of it’s exclusive map tours on Tuesday. Unfortunately I am late to the party because I was in a self inflicted Thursday War bubble.
Abandoned description from the latest Bulletin:
On the remote world of Erebus VII, at the very edge of human-occupied space, an ONI research facility which was once teaming with researchers now lies eerily vacant. Although the hostility of this world had been initially considered by its team leaders, it is tragically clear that a great many ‘things’ had simply not been taken into account.
Here is the Video from IGN, with Kynan Pederson leading the tour.
And speaking of weird, flood like things on this map, what in the world is this?? Kynan says it’s native to this world, which makes me doubt my Flood infected world theory. These things are probably just for aesthetics, but who knows??
I have also included a few videos that analyse this map far better than I can. First off is Nak3d Eli‘s thoughts on the new map, followed by a video from The Halo Council, which includes the call outs they have made for it.
…But not the flood you think. These screenshots give us our first glance at the new map called “Complex”. The description and officail release of the Flood photo also give us comformation that the Infection gametype has been given an awesome revamping. Can’t wait to play as a flood form! From the way these ones look so different, I wonder if 343 redesigned them as well? If we see Flood at some time in the trilogy, I am curious how much they will resemble what we see here.
Within the War Games simulation known as “Flood,” the deadly parasite has returned. A group of Spartans has been transformed into a host of incredibly fast and deadly Flood combat forms. Get a peak at just how gruesome and horrifying this Flood form is in Halo 4, and check out the newly revealed Complex map, set on a science detachment which has been optimized to meet ONI specs for defensive emergencies.
Holy crap. I just spent the last hour and a half going through all the news, videos, screenshots and interviews in ONE POST (thanks to A 3 Legged Goat for compiling all that), and I’m sure I haven’t seen all of it. I haven’t watched any analysis videos or anything yet either.
This first post contains all the info about War games and Spartan Ops, the next one will contain the more spoilery stuff, and will be tagged appropriatly. With out further preamble then….
Other than a couple shots of a new SpOps mission near the end, this is the usual stuff, The Core, water cooler moments, etc. There will be some new SpOps footage in later videos however. Kiki is awesome, but she has a horrible poker face. “One mission might contain an artifact, the next might be about that artifact on the Infinity…”
Here we get some meat. We get a good look at the new map called Solace, wich we will see more of in another video. We also get a good look at a new Spartan Ops mission, set in a desert location, kind of a sand bowl. There is a good, slow look at the Carnage Report medal screen, and we get to see some nice armour shots in there, although most of the guys are wearing brown. Some new campaign footage shows an awesome shot of the Chief killing a knight WITH HIS OWN ARM. Fantastic. The final shot of Cortana confirms that she was saying “I need you” in that shot, not “I love you”, which would have been awful.
4v4 on Solace
Here we get a really good long look at Solace, with commentary from Adam and Nexy from The Halo Council.
Killing Frenzy on Solace
Someone goes on a killing frenzy with the sword, but the main thing I got out of this vid was that the sounds are fantastic. I don’t know if there was a mixing problem, or they just weren’t finished before, but they are great here. Also I noticed that while sprint is always available, this player didn’t use it very often. It just occurred to me that maybe you can’t sprint with a sword, and that’s why a you are immune to the slow down effect of getting shot while using one?
A new objective mode – Dominion
343 introduces a new game mode called Dominion. I can’t wait to try this mode! It seems like territories, plus generator defence, plus something totally new. In this mode you capture a series of bases, which after captured start to fortifty themselves. If one team captures all the bases, the loosing team recieves overshields, but are marked on the enemies HUD. They then have on last chance to retake a base. If they fail, they loose, and I assume that if they succeed, the game continues. The guys from the clip called it a tug of war, or “Land Grab”, which I found interesting, as that is the name of the first SpOps mission. I wonder if we will be playing a version of this objective game type?
Kiki and Josh talk about how 343 makes Halo it’s own.
Frankie tells us that some are Orange, some are Blue, and there is a reason for that.
